WHAT COULD YOU DO WITH FIVE EXTRA HOURS A WEEK?

Getting a bit philosophical today, as we ponder the notion of time. Time is many things: The fourth dimension; something people want to speed up or slow down depending on the situation; it’s something we waste, buy, steal, and spend; in fact, there are even people out there trying to work out if we can travel back or forward through it! Time is big business, but nobody owns it or controls it. It is a riddle that mystifies us all.

With that being said, we humans have done our best. We’ve established countless measurements for time to make sense of our lives. We measure our age in years and structure our lives around the concepts of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months. We’ve created a system which grants us only so many hours in the day, and days in a week to get things done.

But let’s face it, there is never enough time to get everything done. So, what if I told you that you could have five extra hours every week? What would you do with it? You could watch ten episodes of Shortland Street, take six spin classes, drive from Wellington to Rotorua, or sit through a game of cricket.

When used wisely, five hours is a long time. Especially when you add those five hours to your business/working week. That is almost an entire business day you gain back.

If we gave you the gift of five extra hours a week, you could grow your business and take it to the next level. Here is our take on what we think you could do with those extra hours…

Achieve More Than You Thought Possible

Why is it that five hours seems like an absolute lifetime when you are getting on a plane to the islands with a toddler, but it seems like you just sat down for your workday when, all of a sudden, it is time to finish for the day! The reason is that you are entirely conscious of every minute of your time on that flight, whereas at work, you are busy with all sorts of tasks.

How do you translate that time consciousness to your working time? You take out the tasks like checking your emails, chasing up invoices, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments and posting on social media.

Now, we are not suggesting that you take these things out of your business entirely as they are obviously necessary tasks to keep things running. But you don’t need to do those tasks yourself. These are tasks that we do on a regular basis for many of our clients. We handle the busy work so that you can focus on the parts of your business that matter the most, and those that will foster growth, and yield the most significant financial gains.

Did you know, if you only work part-time hours or school hours, letting us help you for an hour a day is like gaining a whole extra day in your week? Instead of five work days, you would have six. Or think of it this way; if you are spending every night clearing your emails and reconciling accounts, you could get your evenings back to relax and watch Netflix (or read that self-development book)!

Focus On Your Core Business

As we just mentioned, many tasks need to be done regularly to keep a business running smoothly, but not all of them are money making tasks. When you exchange your time for money, you want to maximise your billable time. If you spend an hour a day on non-essential tasks, then that is an hour a day that you are unable to bill for. It is lost money.

Removing those tasks from your schedule will let you focus on the aspects that generate income and leads. That means more time to create your products, more time to offer your services, more time to serve your customers and make them love you even more!

Work On Your Business, Not In It

Do you get so bogged down with client work, packing orders, driving to appointments and all of the other things you need to do to keep your business running, that you have no time left to do anything else? You are not alone. So many business owners struggle with balancing their time in this way.

It is indeed essential to work IN your business as that is how you generate your bread and butter. But, if you don’t also take time to work ON your business, then you will only ever be creating bread and butter. You won’t ever reach the lofty heights of French toast or bruschetta!

To move your business forward, you need to ensure you are allocating time to work on it. How better to do that than gaining five hours a week? Imagine the things you could achieve if you assigned that entire time to your business. That could be writing five blog posts; it could be liaising with a supplier for a new product, or even training a new consultant. Whatever you need to give your business the attention it needs.

Grow Your Business

When you dedicate time and energy to working ON your business, then the opportunity for growth becomes possible. Most of the time we have big dreams and goals for our businesses. Maybe it is to grow a team, to introduce multiple income streams, or to hit those income goals. Whatever you want to do, you need to be able to dedicate time to achieving those goals.

Take Time For You

There is nothing that says you have to use those five hours for work. You could take the time for yourself. Life is busy. There is often little time to fit in exercising, journaling, meditating, or chilling with a book and a cup of tea.

There are no rules! So, use it to go for a run, catch up with a friend, go to the shops in peace, or even have a facial or a massage; whatever you want to do for some downtime.

What would you do with your extra five hours a week? You don’t just have to dream about it; you could make it a reality. Here at Virtual Assistants, we have a team of professional VAs that specialise in (and love!) all the tasks that you don’t like to do.
